So, aren’t we concerned that billionaires borrowing money based on the value of their stock isn’t creating just a massive bubble that is going to burst eventually?
Elon Musk borrows money based on the value of his stock, he then uses that money to purchase other shares of other companies… isn’t this just inflating the value of unrealized gains and unduly giving Elon musk more purchasing power than he should have?
I am no economist, but this seems unsustainable… Please someone tell me why I’m wrong because I’ve gotta be wrong.
Taxation and government is criminal, not to say that is “bad”, but it must be understood as a mafia. It’s predatory, the bigger the hunt, the more strenuous. Wealth makes for a dangerous animal, it’s best to make friends with them and co-opt them, use blackmail (Epstein, Diddy, etc.)
They operate on different rules, law is not and has never and could never be equal, fair. It’s the whim of whoever holds power
Thank you for this! More wonky stories and multiparters! I am so down for Georgian explanations.
you should absolutely do a show about georgism!!!!!! I’ve seen the cat and you can too.
As a long-time listener to Planet Money, I found this 2-parter very engaging. Geek on!
I enjoyed the shows this week because I am a huge nerd who likes very wonky topics! I know I'm not alone there either :)
Speaking of wonky, if you want to know more about Georgism I liked this book review and follow up essay series here: https://www.astralcodexten.com/p/does-georgism-work-is-land-really
Ha! You beat me to it! I just posted this same link and then saw you had done so already. Doucet’s posts are really excellent and thought-provoking.
I also thought these were the best episodes so far! I don't know if I'm an outlier but they were great!
More wonky episodes please!
I am a longtime listener and I think these may have been my favorite episodes. I also really love ProPublica as a resource in gen-gen.
