Hi,
I’ve got something new for you. I’m calling it a limited series, which I don’t love, because it makes it sound like it’s wearing a tuxedo, and this is more of a tuxedo t-shirt situation.
But anyway, the new show is Crypto Island. I’ll release it over the course of this year. It explores the world of cryptocurrency.
The trailer is here, you can listen now.

For a long time I wasn’t very interested in crypto as a world to find stories in. And because I’d ignored it, I think I felt invested in continuing to ignore it.
But recently, I’ve plunged it all directly into my brain. Every white paper, every DAO drama, every person who would get on the phone with me. And the result has been, underneath the jargon and money and hype – I just keep finding stories I really enjoy.
I’ve met lots of people who have made me laugh, heard weird tales whose deeper meanings confound me, and wondered about some very complex people with very strange ambitions.
So, those are the stories I’ll be telling. I can promise you that you won’t be bored and that you’ll laugh. And I can promise this doesn’t end with me trying to sell you a coin.
If you’re subscribed here, you’ll get episodes delivered to your inbox. If you’d prefer to listen via your podcast player, you can find Crypto Island there too.
I’m releasing this independently, which is an experiment. (I’m emailing people through Substack, but not taking money from them). I am still figuring out the economics of making something that I hope will be worth your time.
The show is free. If it feels worth paying for, you can sign up for a paid subscription at pjvogt.com. You’ll get to leave comments and ask questions, which I’ll try to answer. We’ll do some open discussion threads.
I’m going to be experimenting with a range of formats here. Audio documentaries, more straightforward Q + A interviews, some weirder stuff.
For real, thanks for being here. If this works it’ll be because of you all.
This is excellent. I've missed your laugh and becoming fascinated by your strange and wonderful stories.
Oh wow. I'm really psyched to hear a new project from you — I've missed your voice on my podcasts! — but my skepticism on absolutely anything cryptocurrency related is *strong.*
The whole area seems so toxic and destructive from top-to-bottom that (I feel like I'm in a minority of cranky increasingly-middle-aged killjoys here) I hate to give it even a little bit more credibility. Keen to listen, though; maybe you'll change my view on it.
