I just signed up last week. I’m glad to be your boss too. I think you should do a story on the guy who is running for governor of MInnesota and one of his three platform items is crypto. But he won’t describe what it means. He seems genuine but also misguided.
Re: Drug Trader. Bwahahahaha! I literally did a spit take listening to "Jay" describe how he's making so much bank in his business and how hey basically "sticking it to the man" via IRS runaround. Here's how this ends: The money exchange he's using will spill to the IRS who's doing what on their platform and he will most likely be flagged for all the altcoin trades he's been making. Once they start poking around with the addresses he's been been using to funnel $ in and out the exchange they will quickly see his other transactions and will start asking tax liability questions. Bitcoin is the last cryptocurrency you'd want to use if you're looking to stay under the radar. Dude will be caught in a quagmire of legal bullshit that will make his head spin. The IRS isn't dumb, and currently employs state of the art block chain analytics to find people like Jay, who at the end of it all, will be left penniless and radicalized all pissed off at the Gov't I see Jay as a simple addict indelibly hooked into the high of price action and money flow,
pitifully unable to manage risk. I mean who loses their phone in Mexico if it gets used as a life-line to their money? As any successful asset trader knows, money and freedom is made not by the trades you make, but how well you mange risk.
Me? What do I know...I'm a long term HODL'r that just bought weed off the Silk Road in 2011 and currently trade the futures market part time.
The IRS doesn’t spend tax payer money. Congress does. The IRS doesn’t care how money is made, but Americans (no matter where they earn their money) need to pay taxes. That money could be earned in dollars, Pesos, ETH. If Jay isn’t paying his taxes, Jay will go to jail. If Jay doesn’t believe in the money spent on the military, he should talk to his elected officials, not the IRS.
Hi PJ - loving the podcast and fascinated/perplexed by crypto. Well done on your interview with J. Would be interested in your thoughts on his business model and outlook. Art Vs ethics. His profits are not free of cost both up and downstream. But if journalistic neutrality forbids then thanks for the episode. Following with interest.
Been loving your podcast. It really made the crypto world accessible to someone like me who was curious but too afraid of the mountain of jargons surrounding the space. I listened to the episodes straight and cant wait for more!
Theres an interesting conversation on nfts happening over at twitter that might be a fun episode check out ryder ripps bayc’s and phunks who are challenging the discourse on nft ownership. Just a suggestion ☺️
I subscribed yesterday but have enjoyed your storytelling since Startup came out. I would be interested in having a meeting. I tried to get alumnus from my science and natural history filmmaking MFA program to talk W3. I even made a discord sever. One whole person joined (there are over one hundred of us! But Dustin and I did have a nice catch up). But I really do want to talk W3 with people who are thinking if and how NFTs, DAOs, and whatever is birthed in the future could be used for good.
I did a longish post to your Miguel story because you asked some questions. I wrote about Freerice, Banano, and Amazon Coffee Farmer tokens. Let me know if you want me to paste it here.
Hi my name is Aaron and I'm a NFT Project founder. I love the series and have been tied up in crypto in one way or another for the past 4 years. Would love to have a chat if you are at all interested in hearing the perspective of a founders view on this world.
I would love to know how you feel about the fact that every NFT is powered by a decentralized crypto system that is horribly bad for the environment and how you make sense of that for yourself?
Hey! Ivan I’m glad you’re here and I’m looking into this interesting Minnesota story you mentioned. Let’s try to give each other the benefit of the doubt though.
I’m trying to make a project where my reporting is valuable for the crypto skeptical and the crypto enthusiastic, which means both tribes will need to live in harmony in the comments.
Yes! Of course! I want to be giving the benefit of the doubt, for sure.
I think I am more of a skeptic and I will be sure to try to write my comments remembering that. My comment above was genuinely interested. I honestly wasn’t trying to be snarky.
Hi Ivan. Sorry for the late reply. Not all blockchains are bad for the environment. Bitcoin and Ethereum are both “proof of work” which require computing power and do require a decent amount of energy for their up keep. I would say that if you use the internet and browse on any site leveraging cloud computing (basically the whole of the modern internet) it’s all having an environmental impact. The problem isn’t the blockchain but the place we get the energy to power our use of it. I can justify my belief in blockchain technology vs my concern for the environment because I believe in blockchain technology and its ability to change the individuals relationship to the monetary system at large
fantastic reporting; keep up the good work Vogt.
I would be more than happy to boss you around, you know, only if it’s ok with you.

Interesting. I will poke around.
It’s this tweet that started it for me. I thought it was satire! It’s not. https://twitter.com/coryhepola/status/1527743605565186048
https://twitter.com/coryhepola is all you need!
OMG PJ. VeeCon that happened in Minneapolis had Gary V talking about Purple and politics and literally that’s the color candidate Hepola wears and shills. I had no idea. Not sure if this useful to you https://racketmn.com/veecon-minneapolis-nft-crypto-bitcoin-blockchain/
"genuine"... a Genuine moron. He genuinely seems like a slimy shopping channel salesman. But dumber, and more predatory.
Yeahhhhhhh, looks like it.
PJ, update. You may have noticed Cory pulled out of the race. He couldn’t get enough signatures.
this show is fantastic.
You should consider an episode about Jay Z / Jack Dorsey ‘s Bitcoin academy for residents of The Marcy Houses in Brooklyn.
I personally think it’s an ethical transgression to push such risky ‘investments’ on people living on the margins.
Keeping an eye on it. Thanks kelp.
wen token?
VogtCoin airdrops are in the roadmap
Please no.
Bored Ape Vogt Club?
Yea but just be real careful you don’t have a lack of women https://www.dazeddigital.com/life-culture/article/56142/1/lonely-ape-the-nft-dating-service-cancelled-due-to-a-lack-of-women

PJ...I love the theme music to Crypto Island. Can you point me in the direction of this musician (Christine Andrews)? I'd like to hear more!

BTW I need you to do 10 jumping jacks and 10 push ups and film yourself doing that. After all I’m your boss right? ;)
😅
OMG Ivan, we’re like three comments in and it’s already getting weird. 😂
Yes! Of course! I want to be giving the benefit of the doubt, for sure.

Oh! Maybe I misread your tone a bit. Thanks for being open to listening in any case.
No problem. Tone is hard on the internet. Sheesh. I get it.

Thanks for the response.
Can you show me the evidence (data) to substantiate your belief? I’d love to be wrong because from what I’ve read and researched, the data shows the opposite. See here for only one example: https://www.businessinsider.com/bitcoin-mining-electricity-usage-more-than-google-2021-9?amp
