PJ, use DuckDuckGo. It works fine, no AI, no ads.

Was this ep fact checked? I'm curious what the source of Katie's claim is that Reddit makes up most of Google's AI Overview.

Clearly wasn’t. Stopped listening 12 minutes in when it was clear that it is all just conjecture and feelings. And claiming that Reddit is better today than it was 10 years ago is laughable. The amount of hate, bots, and misinformation is at an all time high and it’s directly because of Condé Nast and their inability to fire Spez. The fact that Katie thinks that old Reddit was just Advice Animal memes makes it pretty clear that she didn’t actually use Reddit and only saw the front page. Kinda like reading the front page of NYT and thinking they only talk about Trump.

Came for the sticky pizza and board meeting slides, and stayed for the diarrhea sushi talk. Best Friday of 2024 so far!

PJ, I have excellent news for your sticky intestine fears. Coincidentally, I just listened to a podcast episode all about glue (shouts out SciShow Tangents) and learned that there are different types of glue. Pressure sensitive glues are found on sticky notes and tape (yes, tape is just plastic film with glue on one side), and become sticky when pressure is applied and never really harden like other glues. There are glues that are made with solvents that evaporate, leaving dried glue that keeps two things stuck together. Elmer’s glue is water based PVA glue, so the water evaporates and leaves hardened PVA behind that holds your things together. Inside of you, the water would never evaporate so the glue will never be able to dry and be gluey. Super glue, on the other hand, is like two-part epoxy and hardens when mixed with water. Super glue usually reacts with water vapor in the air. The last common glue type is UV cured glues which harden when exposed to UV lights and include stuff like gel nail polish and cavity fillings.

This made me miss Katie’s BuzzFeed show, Internet Explorer. I had sort of lost track of her because I don’t really use Twitter anymore, so this was a truly delightful surprise for my Friday morning.

It's like we're living in a prequel to the movie Idiocracy and about to start giving Gatorade to crops.
