I'm also shocked by this detail. If an advertiser has a product that I love, and good international shipping, I've definitely bought things that I've heard advertised on podcasts.
I've historically skipped the ads on everything, but after the previous discussion about podcast ad dollars I decided to be a better citizen of the world and not skip the ads... all for nothing, I guess! I'm in Canada and some of the shows I listen to have Canadian ads (even French language ones) so I assume those folks are getting paid.
I was just coming here to say this. I got that error along with, "An unexpected error has occurred. Please try again later or contact customer support."
<sheepishly raises hand> I'm getting the same issue! I even tried to (very meta) go into incognito mode to see if I could get it to work, and also tried other devices. No dice. After listening to today's episode about media, I made a conscious choice to subscribe to things that I really love. PJ take my money!
Hi PJ, one of the international listeners here! 🇨🇦 Are there platforms that better support you and compensate you with ad-revenue for international listeners (I.e. Spotify vs Apple Podcast app, etc.)? Happy to make the switch
May you succeed, and not just because you had a series of increasingly weird episodes about animals. This is the best show right now, and not just because I have an existential crisis about journalism every time Ezra Klein is on as a guest.
This is the show I listen to when I want to hear someone do something I never would have thought of in a million years, even though I’m also on the weird stuff beat.
Yeah i'm in. We don't share views on some things but I'd definitely be echochambering myself if I refused to support because of that, I love your particular style of journalism, and that's something I can wholeheartedly support long term.
You’ve won me over with that episode about Cambodia. I used to love the ‘Yes Yes No’ feature explaining obscure tweets that you used to do on Reply All. As a high school teacher, it was my way in to getting some of the jokes my students were making ( somebody touch my spaghet?!). Any chance you could consider something similar explaining what all the kids are at for oldies e.g I’ve found a lot of teenage boys are fascinated by the Soviet Union- any idea why?
You bastard. You got me. Yearly subscriber because I love your work to pieces. Listening to the new one rn.
Sad where the industry is at right now. I just saw the numbers for the most popular podcasts and it’s sad that not a single pod that tells interesting stories (aside from the institution that is TAM) made the list.
Really excited about Incognito Mode as an already subscriber!
To comment on the weeks episode, find the conversation around the decline of the middle budget media really interesting. I've been listening to some other podcasts about this and it's happening in film too, with mid budget movies declining which will be interesting for the future of film.
Your picture of the show pitch document reminded me that I’ve always wanted to know what a show sheet looks like. That could be a fun subscriber-only benefit you could do.
I'm already subscribed to the $7/m plan, I'd love to pay more but can't quite swing the $200/yr plan - any chance you'd add the ability to pay more for the Searchers plan like you do for the Finders plan?
I can’t believe I listen to the ads (not in the US) and you don’t even get paid for it?!
I feel like this could be part of its own episode: "Why Are The Podcasts Dying?"

Super excited to subscribe... But getting this error when trying to pay: "There was a problem processing your payment: Undefined array key "currency""
PJ please just take my money
Me too! Take my money PJ!
i got the same error! both this one: There was a problem processing your payment: Undefined array key "currency"
and this one: An unexpected error has occurred. Please try again later or contact customer support.

Same error here. RIP PJ's inbox.
I've got the same issue as Casey. I'm from Brazil if that, perhaps, makes a difference.
Same issue!
Same here! I tried like 3 times before realizing it wasn't me haha
Same

Same here :(

Not to pile on... but same message here. Can't wait to hear the extra shows. Appreciate you opening this method to help support the podcast.

Anyway, Search Engine rules.
I am an international listener (Canada) and noticed that I started getting less ads on the main feed as time went on.
At any rate, I already subscribe annually, but is there any way I can give you extra as a thank you for this feed?

More nerdy episodes please!
Very happy to subscribe for a year, and I love the blue variant of the logo :)

Oh I used to LOVE yes yes no episodes.
Hey PJ, International listener from Italy here (and so, listening to ads for nothing!?).
After reading this I quickly went to subscribe to support you since I love your show and being a listener since day one of Reply All
Guess what, everyone? It works now!!! I was able to subscribe and got the message with the super secret bonus feed.

This was a bloody fascinating episode.
Done✔️.
