Happy Monday, we have a new one for you.
An anti-woke podcast abruptly announces its end, and in its final episode, a host offers its listeners some surprising news. She had taken ayahuasca, a powerful psychedelic, and it had contributed to her decision to step away. The internet, itself, now looked different. Huh? A conversation with former podcast host Sarah Haider.
A show milestone
This coming Friday, we are airing our very first re-broadcast. It’s an episode we really love, and a very seasonally appropriate one. (I wonder if that’ll be enough of a hint for people to guess which one it is…) The re-broadcast will be on the feed for our free, ad-supported listeners. Premium listeners will instead get a recording of this quarter’s live board meeting, which was quite a bit of fun. The assumption here is that premium listeners are die-hard enough that they’re very likely to have worked through the back catalogue, so we don’t put re-broadcasts on the premium feed.
I know that some listeners roll their eyes, ever so slightly, at re-broadcasts, but from our perspective, airing our first one is actually a bit exciting. It’s a sign that the show’s reached a point of maturity where we have a lot of new listeners who have never heard the beginning of the show. And, the revenue generated by re-broadcasts helps us spend more money and time on new episodes for you. It just generally means, we’re entering our second chapter, and since we hope to have many more, that’s a bit of a thrill.
Okay! That’s it for me this week. The Friday after this one, we have an investigation of something silly we’ve been working on for quite a while, an international story. I hope you all enjoy it as much as we’ve enjoyed working on it. We’ll see.
Best,
PJ
I periodically use psilocybin in therapeutic contexts, and a recurring experience is grasping how petty, unkind, and generally unhealthy a lot of ~the discourse~ is, along with a fresh desire to not participate in it - almost like finding freedom or permission to step away. So the premise of this episode makes total sense to me. It’s worth commenting that it’s also easy to revert back to old habits and attitudes over time, especially if you’re not doing things to integrate insights into your regular life. Having a profound experience is easy, integrating it is the real challenge. It’s a shame when anyone comes full circle then looks back at a moment of positive change as an aberration, so I hope that doesn’t happen here, though the ending doesn’t leave me especially optimistic…
Will the board meeting recording go out soon?
